Masters Preview 2013

April is here which signals the start of spring and the first major championship in golf: The Masters. The Masters could not have come at a better time for golf as the world's best players are coming back into form at just the right time making for what will be a very exciting weekend at Augusta. Speaking of star players, lets take a look at the five players to watch this weekend...

5 Players to Watch

1. Tiger Woods
No golfer is hotter going into the Master's than the world's #1 player. In five tournaments this season, Tiger has won three of them including his past two. His game seems to be his most consistent in years and most importantly, he has rediscovered his putting stroke thanks to a tip from fellow pro Steve Stricker. If Tiger is in play off the tee and rolling them in from all over there is no player in the world that can keep up. He is everyone's favorite this week, ours included.

2. Phil Mickelson
Outside of Tiger, the active player with the most success at Augusta over the years has been Mickelson. He is a three time Masters Champion and while on a bit of a cold streak lately, does have four top 25 finishes this season. He is still one of the best wedge players in the game and has seen great improvements in his driving accuracy this season. If you are looking for a little intrigue, keep an eye on Mickelson this weekend.

3. Rory McIlory
After taking the world by storm last season, the world's former #1 struggled mightily out of the gate in 2013. Battling a swing change, new equipment and rumored off the course issues, 2013 did not start off on the right foot. There has been some light at the end of the tunnel for McIlory in recent weeks with two top 10 finishes in his last three starts including a 2nd place finish in Texas last weekend. Is he all the way back? Maybe not, but he is on the right track and has been lights out in recent majors. It would make for a great story if he can keep his game going this weekend.

4. Bubba Watson
Bubba has quietly put together a solid 2013. He has yet to crack the winner's circle but has finished in the top 20 in all but one event this season. He is also the defending Masters champion, a title that should not go overlooked. While only three players have ever successfully defended their title at Augusta, Watson has a game that suits the course well. He is long off the tee and is as creative a shot maker not named Tiger Woods as their is in the world. He will certainly be a fan favorite this week.

5. Dustin Johnson
Johnson is one of the best players in the world not to win a major. He is an extremely talented player and has the length to be dangerous at Augusta. For some reason Augusta National has given Johnson fits over the years. He has yet to have a top 30 finish despite being what many consider the right handed version of last year's champion, Bubba Watson. If there was one breakout player to watch for, Johnson would be it.
