NFL Wild Card Weekend Cash-In

Wild on Sports

Let the fun begin! The NFL playoffs are upon us! If your team is out of it you can still have a nice little smile on your face this weekend. Here is a look at the plays we like for each game. Good luck everyone!

Saturday, January 5th
Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans -- Reliant Stadium 4:30 PM ET
Line: Houston -4.5, O/U: 43
  • Bengals 0-4 SU & ATS past four playoff games
  • Texans 5-0 ATS past 5 games vs Bengals
  • Bengals 6-1 SU & ATS past 7 road games
  • Bengals won and covered past 4 as road underdogs
No team could have used a bye as much as the Houston Texans. Houston comes into this one as the most demoralized team in football having been in a major slump since taking a shellacking in New England on Monday Night Football a few weeks ago. As recently as 4 weeks ago Houston was considered by many to be the most complete team in football but backed into the playoffs and lost their bye week to the Broncos and Patriots.
Cincinnati +4.5, UNDER 43   LOSS, WIN

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers -- Lambeau Field 8 PM ET
Line: Green Bay -8, O/U: 46
  • OVER is 8-2 past 10 meetings
  • Packers 6-1 SU past 7 at home vs Vikings
  • Packers won 7 straight at home (5-2 ATS)
  • Vikings 8-3 SU & ATS past 11 as underdog
Packers had won 13 straight division games before losing last week. They won't publicly say it, but the Packers are down right embarrassed that they have allowed Adrian Peterson to run all over them in two games (210,199) and he single handedly beat them last weekend. With Charles Woodson back the Packers will have an added edge on the defensive side of the ball. Expect the Packers to make up for last week and then some.
Green Bay -8, OVER 46   WIN, LOSS

Sunday, January 6th
Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens -- MT&T Bank Stadium 1 PM ET
Line: -7, O/U: 47
  • Colts 8-0 ATS vs Ravens since 2004
  • Colts 5-0 ATS at Baltimore since 2005
  • Ravens 16-2 SU as favorite since 2011
  • Ravens 2-7 ATS past 9 as home favorite
Sadly, this will be the final game in one hell of a career for Raven's LB Ray Lewis. As good as RB Ray Rice is, it is a QB's league and Joe Flacco is simply not the answer. Andrew Luck, on the other hand, is going to come out slinging and will quickly show the Ravens that age is catching up to them.
Indianapolis +7, UNDER 47  LOSS, WIN

Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins -- Fedex Field 4:30 PM ET
Line: Seattle -3, O/U: 46
  • Redskins 6-2 SU, 5-2-1 ATS past 8 vs Seattle
  • Past 4 meetings here all played OVER since 1995
  • Redskins 7-2 ATS past 9 games as underdog
  • Seahawks 6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS past 7 as favorite
  • Seahawks 2-5 ATS past 7 road playoff games
Put this game in Seattle and we have a completely different pick here but with RGIII & Co. on their home turf and going in as hot as any team in the league, we'll take the Redskins and the points.
Washington +3, OVER 46  LOSS, LOSS

3-5 weekend...ouch! We'll get'em back in the divisional round!

NCAA Cash-In: Cotton Bowl

Wild on Sports
After a tough loss last night we look to rebound in big fashion with tonight's pick. Good luck everyone!

Cotton Bowl
Texas A&M Aggies (10-2, 7-5 ATS) vs.
Oklahoma Sooners (10-2, 6-6 ATS)
Line: Texas A&M -3.5, O/U: 72

Recent Match-ups:
2011: Oklahoma (-14) 41 - Texas A&M 25
2010: Texas A&M 33 - Oklahoma (-4.5) 19
2009: Oklahoma (-19.5) 65 - Texas A&M 10

Bob Stoops is 5-8 ATS in bowls.
Oklahoma is 7-6 ATS vs. A&M under Stoops.
Oklahoma went 4-5 ATS vs. bowl teams this season.
Oklahoma is 15-10-1 ATS as underdogs in Stoops’ 14 seasons.
Oklahoma is 1-5 ATS in its last six games in January.
Texas A&M went 3-3 ATS vs. bowl teams this season.
Texas A&M is 1-5 ATS in its last six bowls.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Oklahoma's last 5 games
The total has gone OVER in 7 of the last 10 games between these two teams.

Love that last stat. The others don't sway us one way or the other.

Thursday, January 3, 2013

NCAA Cash-In: Fiesta Bowl

Wild on Sports

Fiesta Bowl
Oregon (11-1, 7-5 ATS) vs. Kansas State (11-1, 9-2-1 ATS)
Line: Oregon -8, O/U: 74
Jan. 3, 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Coming off a big win last night we are 3-2-1 in the New Year. Lets take a look at the statistics for tonight's game. Good luck everyone! This should be a very exciting game!

 Kansas State is:

  • 18-7-1 ATS last 26 overall.
  • 10-21 ATS last 31 non-conference games
  •  6-1-1 ATS vs. bowl teams this season.
  • Underdogs 5-1 ATS past 6 Fiesta Bowls
Oregon is:
  • 5-1 ATS last 6 following a SU win.
  • 1-4 ATS last 5 neutral site games.
  • 7-0 ATS last 7 on grass.
  • 7-1 ATS vs. bowl teams this season.
Something has to give here. Both teams look great on paper. Kansas State's only loss came to a high tempo offense (Baylor) very similar to Oregon. Oregon's loss came against a physical offense that slowed the game down and controlled the clock - al la Kansas St. Both teams can put up points. Both teams give up points on defense but cause a lot of turnovers. Should be a very close contest.

NFL Coaching Candidates: Kansas City Chiefs

Wild on Sports
A look at the most likely candidates to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Front Runner:
Andy Reid
Reid met with Kansas City management on Wednesday and Thursday. It is being widely reported that the Chiefs are making every attempt to "not let him leave without a deal in place." The Chiefs are an attractive destination for Reid in that they already have 5 Pro Bowlers in place and the #1 overall pick in the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft. The team's one glaring weakness is at QB, a position that Reid has had success developing in the past in Donavan McNabb and many moons ago Brett Favre. Reid has a history of strong draft picks and could do a lot if given the power to make those decisions. It could easily be seen that Reid upon taking the job could flip the pick to multiple picks, getting a QB in a later position and building the franchise up in just a couple season. Reid would be an excellent fit for KC but is being sought after by several other teams including Arizona and San Diego.

Also in Contention:  In the off chance that KC fails to sign Reid they will look to...
Bruce Arians - Colts OC/Interm Head Coach
Jay Gruden - CIN OC
Keith Armstrong - ATL ST
Kirk Ferentz - Iowa HC
Mike Zimmer - CIN DC

Arizona Cardinals

NCAA Cash-In: Sugar Bowl

Wild on Sports

Sugar Bowl
No. 21 Louisville Cardinals (10-2, 5-7 ATS)
No. 3 Florida Gators (11-1 SU, 7-5 ATS)
Line: Florida -14.5, O/U 48

Coming off a lucrative day yesterday we are going to stick with just giving you the trends. Good luck tonight everyone!

Cincinnati is 12-1-2 ATS in their last 15 games as an underdog.
Cincinnati is 9-1 ATS after allowing 35+ points in their previous game.
Cincinnati is 5-1 ATS in their last six games after scoring 30+ points in their previous game.
Cincinnati is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games away from home including neutral site games.
Florida is 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games away from home including neutral site games.
Florida is 0-8 ATS in their last eight games after scoring 16 points or less in their previous game.
Florida is 5-1 ATS in their last six games after allowing 30+ points in their previous game.
Florida is 12-1-1 ATS in their last 14 non-SEC matchups.
UNDER is 7-3 past 10 Sugar Bowls
Favorites are 4-1-1 ATS past 6 Sugar Bowls

NFL Coaching Candidates: Cleveland Browns

 Wild on Sports
A look at the most likely candidates to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Front Runner:
Chip Kelly
The Oregon coach has been linked to several teams in the past few days but the Browns seem to be the most aggressive at this point for his services. Reports are surfacing that Browns CEO Joe Banner has traveled to Arizona to interview Kelly, who is preparing the Ducks for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Kelly is best known for his uptempo offense that has been mimicked by many in both the NFL and college ranks this season.  The Browns seem to be focusing on the college ranks in their search instead of an NFL retread. It would probably take a sizable contract to get him to leave Oregon but if Kelly wants the job it is his to take.

In Contention:
Doug Marrone
Marrone, a former Saints Offensive Coordinator, is currently the head coach at Syracuse. He was previously in the NFL with the Titans, Jets and Saints. In his three seasons as O-Coordinator the Saints finished 1st, 4th & 1st in the NFL in offense. Marrone has proven himself as a program builder having taken Syracuse from a bottom of the barrel D1 program to a team that has won Bowl games in 3 of 4 years. With young talent already in place Morrone may be just the type of coach to get Cleveland going in the right direction.  has also been linked to Buffalo and Philadelphia.

Also in Consideration:
Bill O'Brien - Penn St HC
Nick Saban - Alabama HC
Jon Gruden - ESPN Anaylst

NFL Fanduel: Wild Card Weekend

Wild on Sports
The playoffs are here and Fanduel is still going strong! Once again we take a look at the players you should have in your line-up this weekend. Goof luck everyone!

QB - Aaron Rodgers  $9,600  vs. Minnesota
Rodgers was 28-of-40 with four touchdowns and a season-high 365 yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Very impressive totals considering he was without leading receiver Randall Cobb and without Jordy Nelson for a portion of the second half. High priced play but should be the unquestioned #1 this week.
QB - Andy Dalton  $7,400  vs. Houston
Houston is the most vulnerable team in the league going into the playoffs. After being one of the hottest and most complete teams in the NFL for the majority of the season, they have not been the same team since the Patriots embarrassed them on Monday Night Football. Expect the Dalton to Green connection to be in full force this week.
WR - AJ Green  $7,500  vs. Houston
As mentioned above, Green should see plenty of looks this week and Dalton and & Co. will go to the air to pick apart a porous Texans secondary. You can pencil this guy in for 100+ and at least 1 TD.
WR - Greg Jennings  $6,900  vs. Minnesota
Jennings caught eight passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Vikings. Great game and another rematch this week. While Cobb and Nelson are both expected to be back full time, Jennings will likely be a big time target once again.
RB - Adrian Peterson  $9,600  vs. Green Bay
Peterson ran for 199 last week, 210 in his previous match-up against the Packers. Don't plan on winning this week unless he is in your line-up.
RB - Vic Ballard $6,100  vs. Baltimore
If you are looking for for a cheap option to off-set Peterson's price tag Ballard is your guy. He gets 20+ carries a game and will continue to get plenty of looks this weekend.
TE - Jermaine Gresham  $5,300  vs. Houston
Gresham is the other red-zone target for Dalton and should get plenty of opportunity this weekend. There are no real studs playing this week making Gresham as good as any.
K - Shayne Graham  $5,500  vs. Cincinnati
Graham has been a busy man lately with the Texans' offensive woes. They should continue this week.
DEF - Indianapolis Colts  $5,500  vs. Baltimore
Tough decision this week but we believe the Ravens have the worst offense of the group. Aside from Ray Rice there isn't a while lot left to scare you.

NFL Coaching Candidates: Arizona Cardinals

 Wild on Sports
A look at the most likely candidates to be the next head coach of the Arizona Cardinals

Front Runner:
Andy Reid
Reid was let go by the Philadelphia Eagles after a very disappointing 4-12 season. Reid has 14 seasons as a NFL Head Coach under his belt with a record of 130-93-1 including a trip to the Superbowl and multiple trips to the NFC Championship game. Reid is widely considered the best coaching candidate on the market and will be a very hot commodity this off-season. Reid will be traveling to Arizona on Wednesday to interview with Cardinals officials. It has been widely reported that Reid has already begun reaching out to start building his coaching staff for where ever he lands. With Arizona already having a respectable defense in place and an All-Star WR in Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona would be a pretty good fit for Reid who would be able to mold his own starter (via draft or incumbent ex-Eagle Kolb) and build the team up quickly. Reid has a strong background of developing quarterbacks having been the QB Coach with the Packers with a young Bret Favre and drafting and developing Donovan McNabb into a Pro Bowler. We think it is Reid's job if he wants it. The Bears, Chargers and Chiefs are also rumored to be interested in his services.

In Contention:
Ray Horton
Horton is the current Defensive Coordinator and only coach the Cardinals decided to retain following a disastrous season. Horton interviewed on Tuesday with President Michael Bidwill. Those conversations will continue Wednesday morning before Reid arrives in town. He led a Cardinals’ defense that was among the league leaders in several defensive categories despite having a 5-11 record. Horton had a ten year playing career with the Bengals and Cowboys as a cornerback. He has been an assistant coach in various capacities with Washington, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Pittsburgh before joining the Arizona staff. Horton has also been linked to the Browns and Bills openings.

Mike McCoy:
McCoy is the Broncos offensive coordinator and drawing a lot of attention for head coaching jobs. He has shown the ability to get the best out of QB's having sculpted Tim Tebow into a playoff QB and most recently helping Peyton Manning regain his Pro Bowl form. The Cardinals will take advantage of the two day window this weekend to interview McCoy (playoff bye week coach). His name is being linked to at least four other teams.

Long Shot Candidates:
Todd Haley - OC PITT
Bill O'Brien - Penn St
Jon Gruden - ESPN Analyst
Bill Cowher - CBS Analyst
Norv Turner - EX SD HC
Tony Dungy - NBC Analyst

NCAA Monday Cash-In: Chick-fil-A Bowl

Wild on Sports

Chick-fil-A Bowl
LSU (10-2, 5-7 ATS) vs. Clemson Tigers (10-2, 8-4 ATS)
Line: LSU -5, O/U 58.5

We are posting this one early as the Wild On Sports office is closing down to celebrate New Year's eve. This line is bound to move but we'll give you our play anyway.

A battle of the Tigers! Clemson has a troublesome recent bowl history. The Tigers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven bowl games and 1-3 ATS under Dabo Swinney. LSU came into the season as a favorite to return to the BSC title game but losses to #2 Alabama and #3 Florida knocked them out of contention. LSU is an elite program and still a couple notches above Clemson at this point. The betting public agree as the line was bet up to -6/6.5 early Monday after opening at -3. There has been some money coming in for Clemson the last few hours bringing it down to -4.5/5 most places. LSU is 5-2 ATS in bowl games under Les Miles. Expect that trend to continue.

Pink Slip Day in the NFL

Wild on Sports

Pink Slip Day in the NFL

With the NFL season ending yesterday for most teams, it is pink slip day today in the NFL and boy have there been a lot of them handed out. Here is a look at the Coaches & GM who are now out of jobs.

Andy Reid, Philadelphia  14 seasons, Record: 130-93-1, Playoffs: 10-9, Last Playoff App. 2010
Lovie Smith, Chicago  9 seasons, Record 81-63, Playoffs 3-3, Last Playoff App. 2010
Norv Turner, San Diego 6 seasons Record: 56-40, Playoffs 3-3, Last Playoff App. 2009
Pat Shurmur, Cleveland  2 seasons, Record: 9-23
Romeo Crennel, Kansas City 1+ season, Record: 4-15
Chan Gailey, Buffalo  3 seasons, Record: 16-32
Ken Whisenhunt, Arizona  6 Seasons, Record: 45-51, Playoffs 4-2, Last Playoff App. 2009

A.J. Smith, San Diego
Tom Heckert, Cleveland
Gene Smith, Jacksonville
Mike Tannenbaum, New York (Jets)
Rod Graves, Arizona

What a day indeed. You can't help but feel bad for guys like Reid, Smith and Whisenhunt who all led their teams to Super Bowl appearances in their tenure. With that said, all but maybe Smith we pretty much done deals even before the final games took place on Sunday. Now the search begins for their replacements. The rumors are already swirling in some cases as teams begin the looks at Coordinators and college coaches. For many of the coaches listed above, they will not be out of work long unless they choose to be. You would have to imagine the phones will be ringing this week for guys like Reid and Smith. Stay tuned this week as we break down the candidates for each head coaching position...

NCAA Monday Cash-In: Liberty Bowl

Wild On Sports

Liberty Bowl
Iowa State Cyclones (6-6 SU, 5-6-1 ATS) vs.
Tulsa Hurricanes (10-3 SU, 7-5 ATS)
Line: Tulsa -2, O/U 50

We can keep this one short and sweet. Iowa St won in the previous match-up this season 38-23. This is a team that tends to show up for big games as shown by their victory over TCU 37-23 and near upset of then undefeated Kansas St. (21-27). They are pretty stingy on defense (allowed just 21 to a Baylor team that averaged 44.5ppg) and have a knack for causing turnovers. Tusla put together a pretty good season in Conference USA but lack that quality win to give you confidence. Yet, somehow Tulsa is the 2 point favorite. Maybe we are crazy, but this one seems too obvious.

Pick: IOWA ST. +2

NCAA Monday Cash-In: Hyundai Sun Bowl

Wild On Sports

Hyundai Sun Bowl
Georgia Tech (6-7 SU, 8-5 ATS) vs. USC (7-5 SU, 3-9 ATS)
Line: USC -7, O/U 61

USC came into the season as the team everyone thought would be playing in the BCS title game. They had the pre-season favorite for the Heisman Trophy in Matt Barkley and a WR in Marqise Lee who many believed to be a first round talent. After winning 6 of their first 7 games the wheels feel off and the season quickly went down hill losing 4 of their last 5.  QB Matt Barkley was injured, missed time and will miss this game. He is replaced by highly touted freshman Matt Wittek. Georgia Tech comes into the game as the only bowl team with a losing record. They petitioned the NCAA for bowl eligibility due to two in conference teams that are on probation and ineligible for postseason play. They run the triple option which is a very interesting offense and one that has produced a lot of points for them this season. Unfortunately, as good as the offense is (34.5ppg), the defense is equally bad (29.9ppg). USC scores an average of 34.2 points per game while giving up 24.6.

Even with Barkley out and Wittek in at QB, this has all the makings of a shootout. The point line has fallen from 66 to 61 largely due to the absence of Barkley. Its time to jump on board before it starts to go the other way!

Fanduel NFL Week 17: A look Back

A look back at the week that was: Fanduel NFL Week 17
See our picks here: Week 17 Fanduel Picks

QB - Tony Romo  $8,400  vs. Washington              15.72
Oh Romo...another Cowboys season, another Romo choke. You can't help but feel bad for the guy. We had faith in him this week thinking "it can't happen again, right?" -- wrong. He did throw a pair of touchdowns but 3 INT's including one in the closing minutes deep in his own zone spelled doom for those who went his way.
QB - Chad Henne  $6,400  vs. Tennessee               18.22
Early in the game this looked like a great pick as he hooked up with WR's Blackmon and Shipley for a touchdown apiece. In the second half the Titan defense took over (no that is not a typo), intercepting Henne twice and returning each for touchdowns. Still not a terrible play as he out performed the likes of Cam Newton, Romo, RGIII and others.

RB - Adrian Peterson  $9,300  vs. Green Bay          32.6
The man is fantasy gold. Running motivated to get his team into the playoffs and a possible shot at Eric Dickerson's record he certainly was the fantasy golden boy again this week. 199yards on the ground and 2 TD's gets him into the 30's for owners this week.
RB - Knowshon Moreno  $6,600  vs. Kansas City   11.9
A first quarter touchdown salvaged the day for an otherwise ho-hum performance. The Broncos rode Peyton Manning's arm to the #1 seed making Moreno a bit of an after thought.

WR - Dez Bryant  $7,600  vs. Washington                 9.1
A 4th quarter injury really hurt both the Cowboy's comeback hopes and the hopes of Bryant owners this week. Had 4 receptions for 71 yards early. Disappointing week for Bryant.
WR - Randy Moss  $4,900  vs. Arizona                      3.8
We went out on a bit of a limb on this pick and missed badly. Moss had just two catches for 28 yards. Moving on...

TE - Jason Witten  $6,000  vs. Washington              15.1
Solid game for Witten. He is just about the only Cowboy that can claim that. 7 catches for 57 yards and a TD is all owners could ask for and its just what they got. Another productive game and another productive season for Witten.
TE - Jermichael Finley  $5,200  vs. Minnesota         11.2
Finley was a touchdown away from having a terrific day. Still, with 8 catches for 72 yards Finley was one of the better TE options this week. Solid play for the money.

K - Nate Kaeding  $5,000  vs. New England                0
Kaeding fell victum to a terrible offensive performance from the Dolphins and a little misfortune from the weather. His only FG attempt was into a 30mph cross-wind. He aimed 20 yards right and missed 20 yards left. The Patriots had passed on two field goals from that same position earlier in the game. Tough play here.

D - Denver Broncos  $5,600  vs.  Kansas City           11
4 Sacks and just 6 points allowed is a decent performance. The Chiefs didn't throw or even possess the ball enough to rack up the big points this week, but a solid play nonetheless.

Week 17 NFL Sunday Cash-In

A look at the games you should be playing this weekend! Good luck everyone!

Last Week: 3-0-1
Click Here for Week 16's Picks

Jacksonville Jaguars +5.5 vs. Tennessee Titans
Jacksonville gave New England quite the scare last week and had a chance to tie the game on the final play but were intercepted in the end-zone. The two teams played a month ago with the Jaguars taking it 24-19. Tennessee is coming off a shellacking last week to Green Bay and clearly are coming into this one with their tails between their legs. Jacksonville is 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings against Tennessee and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Titans are just 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. the AFC South and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 (5-10 on the season).
Pick:  JAGUARS +5.5 LOSS

Miami Dolphins +11 at New England Patriots
As we just mentioned, the 2-13 Jaguars gave the Patriots a scare last week. Tom Brady and company will likely play most of the game, but don't be surprised if Cameron Wake and the Dolphins front 7 start to harass Brady a bit if he gets a breather at some point in the second half. The Dolphins have won convincingly in their last two and played the Patriots tough three weeks ago. The Pats need the game for playoff positioning and most likely will win, but expect the Fins to play them tough and keep it within a touchdown. For those looking for stats: Miami is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 in December, 12-5 ATS last 17 vs. AFC and 19-9-1 ATS last 29 road games.

Indianapolis Colts +7 vs. Houston Texans
Indy played them tough two weeks ago and has a chance to play major spoilers to Houston's bye and home field hopes this week. The Texans have looked very vulnerable lately and could not get anything going against a mediocre Minnesota defense last weekend. Many believe they are not the same team since New England exploited them and dispelled them as "the best overall team on both sides of the ball." The home team has won the last 5 meetings in this series. The Colts are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 in December (only loss was two weeks ago to the same Texans). This has all the makings of a statement game for the Colts. We'll gladly take the points.
Pick: COLTS +7  WIN

Seattle Seahawks vs. St.Louis Rams O/U 42
Seattle would have covered this number by themselves the past 3 weeks. They are playing for playoff positioning so won't likely call off the dogs in this one. St. Louis, while they are unlikely to win the game, has shown that they can score as well. 6 of St. Louis' last 9 games have gone over. Seattle has gone over in 5 in a row and 7 of their last 8. All you need here is 30-13. I like our chances.
