NFL Sunday Cash-In

NFL Sunday Cash-In  Week 14

Another exciting week in the NFL is upon us! Lets take a look at the games we like on Sunday...
 Tom Brady New England Patriots

Cleveland vs. Kansas City UNDER 38
We are starting off the weekend with a play that that has no good rhyme or reason just a very interesting statistic that was brought to out attention this week. Every NFL game attended by our lead blogger this season has gone UNDER. Crazy? Last week he took a trip to Metlife Stadium in New York for Jets-Cardinals. The score: 7-6. This weekend he has drawn the assignment in Cleveland (rough couple of weeks, we know). The obvious play: keep that streak alive baby! TAKE UNDER 38 (we promise better logic to follow).

Miami +10 at San Francisco
Miami was a seven point dog against New England last weekend and earned a push. This weekend they go up against a San Francisco offense that lacks the weapons that they faced with New England. Colin Kaepernick is fighting to keep the starting job and likely to take a couple of chances. He is going against a strong Miami defense, granted more suited to stop the run, but if they can hold a Tom Brady led offense to within a touchdown they should be able to do the same against Kaepernick and the 49ers.

New England vs. Houston OVER 51
9 of New England's 12 games this season have gone over. Until last week's struggle against Miami New England had rattled off a streak of 9 games in a row over. Houston is a very explosive team capible of exploiting opponents weeknesses. If the Patriots have one glaring weakness it is their secondary. The team's scoring averages are 35.8 (NE), 29.3 (HOU) respectively. The Texans have some injuries on defense with star LB Brian Cushing and CB Bruce McCain on IR and CB Jonathan Joseph and LB Brady James fighting nagging injuries. This game has all the makings of a shootout.

After a solid win Thursday night we are sticking to just 3 games this weekend. Play with confidence and good luck!

NFL Thursday Night Cash-IN

Denver -10 vs. Oakland

Oakland is a mess. Peyton has a chance to pad his case for the MVP and Come Back Player of the Year. Broncos should take this one by two touchdowns.

Week 14 NFL Fanduel Plays of the Week

Trent Richardson Trent Richardson #33 of the Cleveland Browns flips into the endzone at the end of a 32-yard touchdown run in the first half against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on September 16, 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Week 14 NFL Fanduel Plays of the Week

A look at the best match-ups and bargains this week.

QB - Josh Freeman  $7,900   vs. PHI
Reasonably price compaired to the big name guys. Draws an Eagles team that is just flat out not good. Expect a 270/2/0 line for Freeman. A good play for the money.
QB - Nick Foles  $5,500  vs. TB
Was named the starter for the remainder of the season this week by Coach Andy Reid. Had a respectable game last week against the Cowboys. If you are bargain shopping you can't do much better than $5,500 for a guy capable of 250/2/1

WR - Calvin Johnson $8,800  vs. GB
This game should be a shootout and Johnson has been an absolute beast this season. Highest priced receiver this week but worth every penny as he is almost a lock for 20 points every week. There are enough bargains elsewhere to make it worth playing Johnson nearly every week.
WR - Tory Smith  $5,600  vs. WAS
Washington has one of the league's worst pass defenses and although Smith's performance has leveled off after his hot start, he is a very good value play this week. Baltimore is going to need to put points up on the board this week to keep up with RGIII and company. Expect a productive game from Smith.

RB - Trent Richardson  $8,200  vs. KC
Richardson has been one of the most reliable players in Fanduel/fantasy this season. The opponent does not seem to have much of an impact in the result. Should get plenty of touches this weekend against KC. Very good play this week.
RB - Jonathan Dwyer $5,900   vs. SD
Dwyer will get the start for Pittsburgh this week over Mendenhall and Redman. Dwyer had 49 yards and a touchdown last week against a tough Baltimore defense. A pretty good play for the money at $5,900.

TE - Kyle Rudolph $6,000   vs. CHI
Over the last three games Rudolph has become Christian Ponder's favorite target catching 18 balls for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns. With Percy Harvin out expect more of the same.
TE - Brandon Pettigrew $5,000  vs. GB
This should be a high scoring game and game. With Bryan Browles out Pettigrew become the #2 option behind Calvin Johnson in the Lion's offense. Expect him to at least find the endzone once making him a great play for the price.

K - Nick Novak $5,000  vs. PIT
Best of the 5,000 group this week. Should get a few field goal opportunities this week.

DEF - Pittsburgh $5,100  vs. SD
No match-ups that jump off the page at you this week. This is a field goal, not touchdown match-up this week for Pittsburgh. Should produce enough points for a decent play.

Sox Make Late Arrival to AL East Hot Stove Party

Sox Make Late Arrival to AL East Hot Stove Party

The 2012 season is still very fresh in the minds of fans from the AL East. The Yankees were the Yankees, wining the division and making it to the ALCS. Tampa rode its pitching for most of the season staying competitive but ultimately falling short. Baltimore with new GM Dan Duquette was the surprise of the league making the playoffs and giving the Yankees everything they had for 5 games. Then were were the Red Sox and Blue Jays who duked it out all season long for the right not to be considered the worst team in the division.

Fast forward to December, the heart of MLB hot stove and four of the 5 teams had made moves to maintain or inporve their prospective clubs. The Yankees re-signed pitchers Kuroda, Pettitte and Rivera. The Orioles retained all save for Mark Renyolds with youngster Manny Machado ready to step into a full time gig. The Rays added 1B James Loney. They Blue Jays, the most active of the group, rehauled the entire roster curtosey of the Miami Marlins with the additions of Johnson, Buehurle, Bonifacio, Reyes and others. That left just the Red Sox out in the cold just standing pat waiting for markets to develop.

My what a difference 48 hours made. With the general manager's meetings in full swing the Sox finally snagged two key free agents in Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino.

Napoli is now a full time 1B after spending 8 seasons at catcher with the LA Angels. He brings the potential for a powerful bat from the right side and should fill a bit of the void left by Adrian Gonzalez and Cody Ross. The downside: Napoli is coming off a personal worst offensive season hitting just .227. The good news: Napoli is only one season removed from a .320 with 30 homeruns.

So which player is he? Likely somewhere in between - good news for the Sox as that projects somewhere in the .270 range with 25 home runs. At 3 years - $39million the Sox will take that production all day long.

In the past 24 hours the Sox made a second move locking up outfielder Shane Victorino. Victorino, like Napoli is coming off a subpar season but brings at lot to the table. His plus defense and arm gives the Sox a great option for right field or center should they swing a deal to move Jacoby Ellsbury. He also has the speed and on base ability to hit in the 2 hole in the line-up allowing to bump Dustin Pedroia down to 3 and making the top of the order very contact and on base oriented.

Are the additions of Napoli and Victorino enough to jump the Red Sox back into the thick of things in the Al East? Only time will tell. One thing is for certain this is going to be one wild ride going forward and the Sox have made their announcement that they are done watching and want to be a part of it.

NFL Week 14 Waiver Wire Wonders

NFL Week 14 Waiver Wire Wonders

Its fantasy playoff time for most leagues! Looking for that 1 player to push you over the top? Take a look at week 14's best waiver wire options.

QB - Brandon Weeden
Back to back victories for the Browns and a week 14 date with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have given up the most passing touchdowns of any team in the NFL to opposing quarterbacks and are coming off an emotional week 13 victory. The distractions this week with a funeral and continuous questions make it very likely that the Chiefs will not be rolling at 100% coming into Saturday's game. Owned in very few leagues, if you need a one week fix for he playoffs Weeden could be a very useful play.

RB - Knowshon Moreno
If you are looking for a back who is going to have the ball in his hands most of the game, Moreno is your guy. He has gotten nearly all the touches since McGahee went down to injury. With a week 14 match-up against Oakland he is bound to get many more. Oakland ranks 28th in the league against the run. Peyton Manning and company should put big numbers against the Raiders giving Moreno plenty of opportunity to give your teams some much needed points.

RB - Bryce Brown
If Brown is still available in your league he is a must pick-up and must-play. He showed last weekend against Dallas that his week 12 numbers were no fluke. With the Eagles focused on the future and seeing what they have in young talent, expect them to take their time bringing McCoy back from injury. The only draw back from Brown is his tendency to fumble, a trait that will send even the best of back to the bench.

WR - Josh Gordon
For many of the same reasons we like Weeden, we like Gordon this week. He has emerged as Weeden's go to guy and with a very favorable match-up against the Raiders should be in for a productive week.

TE - Dallas Clark
Clark has found the end-zone in 3 of his last 4 games and draws a very good match-up against the struggling Eagles. While he does not put up the huge yardage totals he once did with Peyton Manning, he still has a knack for getting open in the red-zone. If you need TE help, Clark is as likely as any available to find the end-zone in week 14.

Week 13 NFL Fanduel: A Look Back

Week 13 NFL Fanduel: A Look Back
A look back at this weeks picks, best match-up and bargain players.

Best Match-ups:
QB  Tom Brady  $9,800                 12.42
Slow day for Brady by Brady standards with a 238/1/1 line. After averaging 30+ points per game against the Dolphins last season he managed just 12.42 this week. For the money there were definitely better plays. The combination of a tough Miami defense and a run focused attack certainly didn't help numbers.
RB Trent Richardson  $8,200         17.0
Solid day on the ground for Richardson with a line of 72/1, 3/23. While there are cheaper options out there on a given week, Richardson has been one of the most reliable fantasy plays week in, week out.
WR Roddy White/Julio Jones         2.5, 7.3
Poor plays with both. Given that it was a Thursday night game hopefully many of you stayed away with your weekend or Sunday only contests. They had a dream match-up against the worst pass defense in the league going into the game, but both teams struggled to get things going offensively. Just be thankful you didn't have Drew Brees and his 5 INT's.
TE Owen Daniels  $6,200               5.8
3/43 line for Daniels. Had a favorable match-up coming in against a team he torched for 100+ and a TD in the previous match-up. For the money there were far better plays.
K Jay Feeley  $5,000                        7.0
If you have any players in this game beyond DEF you walked away disappointed. Both Sanchez and Lindley were horrific and turnover prone. If only punters had some fantasy value...
DEF  Houston Texas  $5,100          22.0
This was clearly the best pick we gave you for the week. 6 sacks and 6 turnovers leads to big time points. Even with a couple stinkers elsewhere a great defensive performance like this can get you into the money for the weekend.

Bargain Shopping:
Eli Manning  $7,500
280/1/0 line for Manning. Respectable play for the money but better options were out there.
Rashard Jennings  $5,200
Ouch. Any play on the Jags outside of Shorts was a bad one this week. We were expecting more against a suspect Bills defense. Until MJD comes back any Jags RB is a very risky play.
Pierre Garcon  $5,300                       20.6
8/106/1 for Garcon. A terrific play at just 5,300 for the production.
Jermaine Gresham  $5,700                9.5
Got in the end zone yet again making him a respectable play for the week.

QB Controversy All Over the NFL

With week 13 almost complete the story lines across the NFL seem to be stemming from QB controversy. Fans in San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia, Arizona, Kansas City, Tennessee and Jacksonville. Lets take a look at the players in debate as see who should start week 14.

San Francisco 49ers
Week 14 Starter:  Colin Kaepernick *12/3*
Week 13 Starter: Colin Kaepernick
Back-up: Alex Smith
In one of the most talked about controversies coming into the week Kaepernick got the call after great starts in week 11 & 12 for the injured Smith. Kaepernick showed his first signs of rookie struggles and got some untimely drops from receivers late in the game as the 49ers lost in overtime to St. Louis. Smith has fully recovered from the concussion that kept him out in weeks 11 & 12. He was outspoken in his displeasure for losing his job due to injury instead of performance, and understandably so. The week 14 starter decision will be a tricky one for coach Jim Harbaugh.
Case for Kaepernick:  Brings a mobility to the position that Smith does not allowing for an expanded playbook. The potential is sky high and has shown a confidence and ability to beat playoff caliber opponents.
Case for Smith: Terrific track record for Smith under Harbaugh as TD totals have sky rocketed and INT totals have dropped considerably. Was the unquestioned starter before a concussion cost him two weeks. Has proven he can win in the playoffs, leading the 49ers to with-in a muffed kickoff of a Super Bowl appearance.

New York Jets
Week 14 Starter: Mark Sanchez *12/5*
Week 13 Starter: Mark Sanchez
Back-ups: Tim Tebow, Greg McElroy
After throwing 3 interceptions in 2.5 quarters Sanchez was yanked for rookie McElroy. With Tim Tebow out due to injury and Sanchez struggling to make anything happen offensively, coach Rex Ryan gave the chanting fans what they wanted on Sunday. The stadium was electric when McElroy entered the game giving the Jets a huge emotional boost on each side of ball. McElroy led an inspired TD drive capped off by his first career TD pass to TE Cumberland. Ryan has quite a mess on his hands heading into next week's game in Jacksonville.
Case for Sanchez: Of the 3 INT's thrown Sunday only 1 can the blame really be put on Sanchez's shoulders as two were a case of the receiver miss-playing the ball. Without any help on the offensive side of the ball many feel you might as well stick with the player who Ryan deems to be the best at his position and has been from training camp on.
Case for McElroy: Led an electric and inspired come-back win in game 13. While he did not dazzle offensively, he made smart decisions with the ball and showed good mobility on a 3rd down scramble to keep a late drive alive. Has to be considered the 'hot-hand'.
Case for Tebow: If healthy, heading home to Jacksonville may led to there being more Tebow fans in the stands than Jacksonville fans. While not terribly effective as a traditional QB, Tebow has the intangibles to win football games.

Week 14 Starter: Nick Foles *12/3*
Week 13 Starter: Nick Foles
Back-up: Michael Vick
With Vick out with a concussion the Eagles looked to Foles in week 13 against the Cowboys. Given his youth and inexperience played a pretty good overall game nearly leading the team to an underdog victory.
Case for Foles: Named started on Monday by coach Andy Reid. Young and unproven. Will only get better with more playing time. With the Eagles out of it, it is time to see what the kid can do.
Case for Vick: The high priced veteran was considered going into the season to be one of the most explosive and spectacular players in the game. If healthy, adds dynamics to the team that few others can.

Arizona Cardinals:
Week 14 Starter: John Skelton *12/5*
Week 13 Starter: Ryan Lindley
Back-ups: John Skelton, Kevin Kolb
With Kolb injured and Skelton struggling the Cardinals turned to the rookie Lindley for week 13's game. To say it wasn't pretty would be an understatement. Lindley consistently threw balls to areas that were unoccupied by any player, let alone one of his wide-receivers. Very ugly performance. Tough situation in Arizona. Two bad QB's and a 3rd that is hurt.
Case for Lindley: With playoff hopes all but gone the thought seems to be see what the kid can do. He will have to show a lot more going forward to warrant future starts.
Case for Skelton: None. Has had opportunities and blown them. *WOW*
Case for Kolb: Best QB on the roster at this point but remains injured.

Week 14 Starter: Chad Henne
Week 13 Starter: Chad Henne
Back-up: Blaine Gabbert
Henne has looked impressive in two games after spelling Gabbert in relief. That all changed against the Bill as the offense looked out of sync and struggled against a bad Buffalo team.
Case for Henne: Two very good games before this week's stinker. Seems to have developed a good relationship with WR's Shorts and Balckmon.
Case for Gabbert: A first round pick and seen as the QB of the future going into the season. Struggled recently, but with the season over it may be time to see what the kid can do after sitting on the sidelines for a couple weeks.

Kansas City
Week 14 Starter: Brady Quinn
Week 13 Starter: Brady Quinn
Back-ups: Matt Cassel
Quinn led the team to an emotional victory following the death of a teammate to suicide. With Cassel both banged up and ineffective it appears to be Quinn's job to loss at least for one more week.
Case for Quinn: Coming off solid week 13
Case for Cassle: None

Week 14 Starter: Jake Locker
Week 13 Starter: Jake Locker
Back-up: Matt Hasselbeck
Locker threw for 309 yards but also 3 INT's in a loss to the Houston Texans. With the season all but over at 4-8 Locker may not be the best QB for the job but is the best option given the investment the Titans have made in him.
Case for Locker: Young and former 1st round pick. Need to see what he can do with more playing time.
Case for Hasselbeck: Better statistically at this point than Locker but at this point considered the veteran influence and hopeful mentor to the young Locker.

A-Rod or A-_________? - Alex Rodriguez Out Until June

The Yankees announced on Monday that third baseman Alex Rodriguez will undergo hip surgery with an expected return sometime in June.

Here we are in December with the Yankees season nearly two month past its completion and A-Rod has decided that now is the time for surgery? Out till June? Hmm, lets see here...get a surgery done when the season ends and be ready two months sooner, say April when the season begins or put it off until December, and maybe even January and miss part of the season leaving your team to start the Eduardo Nunez's or Eric Chavez's of the world in your place. What a great teammate.  Looks like $28million well spent for 2013.

Curt Schilling had an interesting take on ESPN this morning questioning whether this injury is in conjunction with his decline and now growing injury history as a result of performance enhancing drugs. If that is in fact the case one would have to wonder if the Yankees will explore the possibility of getting out of some or all of the 5 years and $114million still owed to A-Rod on his existing contract.

The Yankees will now look to free agency for 3B help. With surgeries in consecutive seasons on each hip. it is likely that even when healthy A-Rod may be nothing more than a DH at this point.

So Yankees fans, Red Sox fans, baseball fans -- what do we call A-Rod now?

Cash-In: A Look Back at the Weekend

College Cash-In : Click Here to See Picks
Friday Night
UCLA +9 at Stanford - WIN
As expected UCLA kept it close throughout and even had to a chance to win outright. Tough to blow out a good teams twice in a season, let a long on consecutive weeks. Good play, good win.

TCU at Oklahoma UNDER 60 - WIN
Bit of a dog fight in this one with Oklahoma coming out on top 27-17. 60 was a big number and a bit of a gamble give the caliber of both offenses but coming off a couple of emotional wins this had let down game written all over it for Oklahoma going into the game. Decent play, good win.

Cincinnati at UConn UNDER 41 - LOSS
Hit 41 on the number through 3 quarters. Cincinnati moved the ball better than expected against a pretty good UConn defense. Average play, tough loss.

Alabama -7 vs. Georgia - LOSS
What an exciting game this was. Georgia brought a lot more to the table than expected and had a chance to win the game outright right down to the end. Great game, surprising loss.

College Week Total: 2-2
Season Percentage: .625

Thursday Night
Atlanta -3, OVER 55 vs. New Orleans - SPLIT
You wouldn't believe a guy with a crystal ball if he told you that Drew Brees would throw 5 interceptions in this game going into it, killing the over play. Atlanta held up their end of the bargain with the 10 point victory. Surprising total result.

Jacksonville +6 vs. Buffalo - LOSS
We we trying to ride the hot coattails of Chad Henne in this one and missed badly. The Bills dominant rushing attack coupled with an efficient game from Ryan Fitzpatrick spelled disaster for the Jags.

Chicago -4 vs. Seattle - LOSS
Seattle was 1-5 on the road going into the game and coming off a tough loss to a mediocre Miami team. Chicago was getting Matt Forte back from injury and appeared to be in possition for an easy win -- guess not. Seattle, led my Russel Wilson fought hard and pulled off a 23-17 win on overtime.

Minnesota at Green Bay OVER 46 - Loss
Look good at half time with a score of 14-10 but outside of Adrian Peterson the Minnesota offense just could not get anything going offensively. With the game in hand the Packers ran down the clock on the ground to close out the game and our hopes of salvaging something on the weekend.

NFL Week Total - 1-4
Season Percentage: .450

Ouch! Tough weekend. NFL has been a struggle this season. With just bowl games left on the slate we will be going to game-by-game for college while sticking with the Cash-In format for the final weeks of the NFL season. Here's to hoping we close out on a little better note!
